Congenital CMV Public Health & Policy Conference

The biennial Congenital CMV Public Health & Policy Conference will take place at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota at Minneapolis.

The goal of the conference is to present the latest research on diagnosis and treatment, raise awareness, delineate prevention efforts, provide information about early intervention options, and disseminate family support resources in an effort to reduce the number of babies born with CMV and connect families affected by CMV with the resources they need to improve their quality of life. It is intended for

  • neonatologists
  • primary care pediatricians
  • pediatric otolaryngologists
  • neurologists
  • epidemiologists:
  • parents

Keynote speakers include APS members Dr. Peter Hotez, Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor, and Dr. Stanley Plotkin, Professor Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania and inventor of the Rubella vaccine. Minnesota Senator Karin Housley, who helped drive Minnesota’s adoption of universal CMV screening as sponsor of Minnesota’s universal congenital CMV screening legislation, will offer opening remarks.

NOTE: The PIDS Foundation offers the Award in CMV Medical Education to improve maternal and infant health through medical education. Specifically, the $25,000 award (sponsored by Moderna) will seek proposals by current PIDS members to develop educational modules, conduct education research, or apply adult learning theory to the issue of CMV diagnosis, treatment, and prevention in children and young adults.
