MAJOR FEATURES OF TRAINING PROGRAM: The program is designed to train pediatricians for careers in academic pediatric infectious diseases with emphasis on developing both their clinical and investigational skills. Fellows receive broad and deep clinical experience through participation in a large consultative infectious diseases service and the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Children, which provides comprehensive medical care to a large cohort of children and adolescents with HIV infection. The clinical experience at University Hospital in Newark is complemented by two months of clinical electives spent at Hackensack University Medical Center , a regional center for pediatric hematology/oncology that affords exposure to patients with malignancies and bone marrow immuno-diagnostics, as well as epidemiology and research methodology. There is opportunity to participate significant activity in HIV-related policy and education. Research training is an essential component of the virology, immunotoxicology, antiretroviral therapy, tuberculosis, and various epidemiologic projects. Linkages and Preventive Medicine, Adult Infectious Diseases, Emerging Pathogens, and the renowned Public Health Research Institute.
