RESEARCH INTERESTS: Infectious disease epidemiology and prevention, vaccine implementation, antimicrobial stewardship in the surgical setting, cost-burden/effectiveness studies of vaccine-related and other clinical topics, infection prevention and control, and development of rapid diagnostic tests for bacteremia. Other research opportunities for fellows are available in collaboration locally with the Division of Adult Infectious Diseases at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (which includes national experts in endocarditis, fungal basic science and vaccine development, bacterial pathogenesis, and outcomes research) and elsewhere throughout the region.

MAJOR FEATURES OF TRAINING PROGRAM:
The goal of our three-year Fellowship program is to train competent ID specialists through a broad-based experience in research, teaching and clinical infectious diseases. Our southern California location provides tremendous exposure to a variety of immigrant and through-traveler populations enabling diverse clinical and research opportunities. We also send Fellows to local collaborating institutions for increased exposure to other more focused areas of infectious disease including academic/university-based hospitals and LA County Public Health.
