MAJOR FEATURES OF TRAINING PROGRAM:  The Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellowship program at Baylor College of Medicine is one component of the largest pediatric departments in the United States. The Texas Medical Center provides an exciting, diverse and very stimulating learning environment for our post-graduate fellows in training. The fellowship program is a three-year training program designed to prepare pediatricians for a career in pediatric infectious diseases. The first year of fellowship is primarily dedicated to clinical training at Texas Children’s Hospital. Years two and three of the fellowship program are dedicated to receiving basic, translational or clinical mentored research training. In addition to the clinical and research training, the Baylor pediatric infectious diseases fellows complete rotations in clinical microbiology/virology, molecular microbiology, retrovirology, infection control and prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.

1. Margaret Taylor:  Intermittent education and audit and feedback reduce inappropriate prescribing of oral third-generation cephalosporins for pediatric upper respiratory tract infections.
2. Saki Ikeda:  Epidemiology and clinical characteristics of childhood TB identified using active and passive case finding.
3. Mary Fortini:  HACEK Infective Endocarditis at a Tertiary Children’s Hospital.
4. Denver Niles:  Plasma Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing Assay for Identifying Pathogens: a Retrospective Review of Test Utilization in a Large Children’s Hospital.
5. Juri Boguniewicz and Gabriella S Lamb:  Comparison of Musculoskeletal Infections due to Nontyphoidal Salmonella Species and Staphylococcus aureus in Immunocompetent Children.
