Dr. Emma Mohr Research Achievements Recognized by PIDS with Young Investigator Award

Award honors a young physician seven years or less our of fellowship whose career in pediatric research has led to outstanding contributions in clinical or basic research in pediatric infectious diseases

Emma Mohr, MD, PhD, an exceptional physician-scientist, educator, and researcher, is this year’s Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society’s Young Investigator Award winner. This award is presented annually to a physician who has completed pediatric infectious diseases fellowship training seven years or less from the award date and whose independent and productive research during and after fellowship represents outstanding contributions in pediatric infectious diseases.

The award was presented during the PIDS Foundation Annual Dinner, which is held during IDWeek (October 16-19), the premier scientific meeting for infectious diseases professionals. Additional society awards and recognitions were presented during the PIDS Foundation Annual Dinner and the PIDS Membership Meeting. This year’s dinner and meeting were hosted in Los Angeles, CA.

“We are pleased to celebrate the impactful research and mentorship accomplishments of Dr. Emma Mohr as the PIDS Young Investigator Award winner for 2024,” said PIDS President, Dr. Bill Steinbach. “She exhibits a passion for research and dedication for growing pediatric infectious diseases that perfectly exemplifies our goal for this award. We eagerly await where her research into congenital infections takes us next.”

Along with the Young Investigator Award, Dr. Mohr previously received a St. Jude-PIDS Fellowship Award in Basic and Translational Science in 2017. The goal of this award is to develop an enhanced cadre of physician-scientists who are trained to conduct rigorous, high-quality, basic or translational research studies in the field of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. This award provides support for 3 years to maximize research time. Dr. Mohr completed her research award in 2019.

Dr. Mohr is Assistant Professor, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She recently began as Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology there, as well. She is board certified in pediatric infectious diseases and pediatric specialty. She serves as the chair of the newly formed PIDS Membership Engagement Committee.

Dr. Mohr earned her MD at the University of Iowa Carver School of Medicine. Her residency was completed at Emory University and pediatric infectious diseases fellowship at her current institution, the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Additionally, she earned her PhD from the University of Iowa for her thesis, ‘GB virus C: cellular interactions, HIV inhibition and natural history.’
