Alice Sato, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She also serves as the Hospital Epidemiologist for Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.
Dr. Sato received her MD and PhD in Immunology at the University of Pennsylvania, trained in general pediatrics through the Nemours Children’s Hospital/Sidney Kimmel Medical College program, and after several years as a hospitalist pursued her pediatric infectious disease fellowship at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
She helped author “A Pediatric Infectious Diseases Perspective of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Children” published in JPIDS in November 2020, and is active in state, regional, and national efforts to curb the pandemic in kids.
Dr. Sato serves on the Communications Committee and Social Media Subcommittee where her passion shines for celebrating the accomplishments of others in pediatric infectious disease, educating others about the field, and recruiting new trainees.
“As a member of the Social Media Subcommittee, I have had the great pleasure of putting the spotlight on others’ work and presentations online. We amplify members’ research and efforts to promote non-pharmaceutical interventions and vaccines, tackle issues like health equity, antimicrobial resistance, infections in transplant recipients and other immunocompromised children, and support trainee and faculty development. Being able to amplify the voice of PIDS in supporting equity and vaccinations for children as well as congratulating and celebrating our society’s award recipients has been a true highlight for me in the past year.
“I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to further increase engagement and followers within the PIDS community. I’m happy to talk to anyone interested in volunteering!”
